From Barbastro to Aínsa
A few kilometers beyond El Grado (km 0), you enter the Sobrarbe region.
After 10 km, Mipanas appears, a beautiful center of great authenticity, among olive and almond trees, on the banks of the El Grado reservoir.
Km 14.8
Abizanda. From the road, this center draws attention, located on a cave, which has interesting popular architecture, highlighting Casa Carlos with its 16th century tower. Its church is from the same century, but the most notable thing is the 11th century defensive tower restored a few years ago. This restoration has restored the roof and scaffold, which is missing from the rest of the towers in the region.
Km 18.8
Detour to Lamata and Olsón. The latter is a nice nucleus of scattered houses and neighborhoods. Its large church and tower are very interesting, the first being a Renaissance work with star vaults, a polygonal apse and a stone altarpiece. Many know it as “the cathedral of Sobrarbe”. From Olsón you can continue to Mondot, and from there to Arcusa to return from there to Aínsa.
Km 19
Mesón de Ligüerre (camping, hospitality). Taking the detour to the Lafueba valley, in 1.5 km you reach Ligüerre de Cinca, a beautiful town hanging over the El Grado reservoir. The “Ligüerre Palace” from the 16th century stands out. On loan to UGT, this nucleus is largely restored.
Km 21
Samitier, with the tower of Saint Vincent. A 30' walk away is the Samitier hermitage-castle, in a spectacular place, hanging over the El Entremón gorge. Here a tower and a church were built, well protected by the cliffs provided by nature. The church (from the 11th century), recently restored, has three naves separated by pilasters and apse, while the tower (from the same century) is very dilapidated.
Km 22.7
The tower of this ancient town buried by the waters always emerges above the Mediano reservoir. A little further on there is a detour that takes us, after 7 km, to Castejón de Sobrarbe (popular architecture, large Gothic church from the 16th century). At km 27.8 we find Camporrotuno, with its vaulted steps.
Km 29.2
Detour of 1 km to Coscojuela, elongated on the hill, with two vaulted steps in separate ancestral houses. It also highlights its stylized tower with spire and its 16th century church.
Km 32.8
Morillo de Tou (camping, hospitality). Town acquired and restored by Comisiones Obreras, which a few years ago was abandoned and today is a vital tourist center. Its church is from the 17th century, in the Aragonese Gothic style and today it is used as a music bar.
Km 36.8
L'Aínsa (or Aínsa). (Region shopping center). Beautiful old town from the 12th to 14th centuries. 12th century church. 11th-17th century castle. Two beautiful streets and the splendid Plaza Mayor, with porches (or arcades). This nucleus deserves a special and careful visit.
